BMR calculator.
Estimate resting energy expenditure before adding daily activity.
BMR inputs
No weight-loss target is prescribed. Health conditions, training and body composition can affect energy needs.
Adult estimate, not a measured metabolic rate or a calorie prescription. Equation coefficient: female. Not for pregnancy, breastfeeding or people under 18.
How this bmr calculator works
The commonly searched term BMR is used here for a resting-energy estimate. Mifflin–St Jeor uses 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age, with a coefficient of +5 for male or −161 for female. Laboratory BMR and resting-energy measurement conditions are not identical.
A worked example
At 70 kg, 170 cm and age 30, the male coefficient gives 1,617.5 kcal/day; the female coefficient gives 1,451.5. These are predictions from an equation, not measured metabolism.
Is BMR the amount I should eat?
Resting energy is not total daily energy need. Movement and other daily demands use energy too. Use the TDEE page to explore activity, and avoid treating this number as an intake target.
