How this loan balance transfer calculator works

Transfer comparisons should include the old loan exit charge and the new loan processing or closing costs. Enter their total as fees, choose whether they are financed, and compare at the date when you expect to repay or reassess the loan.

A worked example

If a transfer reduces the payment by 100 but costs 3,000 upfront, payment-only break-even suggests 30 months. Remaining debt can change that conclusion when terms differ, which is why this tool includes it.

Does a negative savings number mean the transfer costs more?

Yes, under the stated assumptions and horizon. It does not include taxes, insurance changes, cash-out proceeds or the opportunity cost of paying fees upfront.
