How this lakh crore million billion converter works

Numbering units differ by powers of ten: one lakh is 100,000 units, one crore is 10,000,000, one million is 1,000,000 and one billion is 1,000,000,000. The converter shifts the decimal point as text instead of rounding a floating-point value, preserving up to 60 entered digits.

A worked example

1 crore equals 10 million, while 1 billion equals 100 crore. A value of 2.5 crore is 25 million: written with Indian commas it is 2,50,00,000, and with international commas it is 25,000,000.

Does converting crore to million convert rupees to dollars?

No. The number scale changes while the currency or quantity stays the same. ₹1 crore is ₹10 million, not US$10 million. Billion uses the modern short-scale meaning of one thousand million. Enter plain digits with an optional minus sign and decimal point, without commas or exponent notation.

Keep the currency label attached

For a budget quoted in crore rupees, convert the number scale and keep INR on the result. Exchange rates are a separate operation. This tool also works for non-money quantities such as population counts, provided the underlying unit stays the same.

Use the equivalent-values table to cross-check a report before copying it. Indian grouping keeps the last three digits together and groups earlier digits in pairs; international grouping uses threes throughout. Commas change how the number is read, not its value.
